Xi'an, (named Chang An in ancient China), capital of the Chinese Empire for almost a thousand years, is the most famous and the longest historical city in Chinese history. The glorious historical accumulation and the abundant humanities resources makes Xi'an a head position of the six ancient capitals in China, and also, Xi'an is one of the four greatest civilized ancient capitals of the world and the most famous tourism destination. At present, there are 314 cultural relic places (84 of them are national or provincial level);ancient ruins and mausoleum are above 4000 places.With the rapid development of urbanization, many dilemmas have appeared one by another: environment pollution trends to be more and more heavily, the eco-functions and eco-diversity are declining quickly, the style and shape of the old city are encountering many threatens, in particular, many negative affects were brought to the protection & development of the culture resources. The whole city shows a scattered and disharmonious landscape because of a long-time intemperate construction and poor management. Therefore, it is necessary to comprehensively reform the city's landscape. Modern urban design is an effective way to protect the overall landscape and distinct the unique characteristics of the city. In this paper, we use the methodology of urban design, and through the comprehensive spatial analysis of the whole city, to systematically integrate all of the landscape resources, so to make a better combination between the history-cultural meaning and the nature-ecological characteristics.
