Technology of RCD is a new concrete construction technique which performsvibroroller compacting using construction craft of earth rockfill dam. This technologybreakthrough the conventional placement method and have a series of advantages suchas high level of mechanization, short time limit for a project, saving investment and soon .The technology of RCD with dam is first used by other countries in the seventiethof the twentieth century and is studied in our country in the early eighties. With thecontinual experimental investigation and engineering practice, the technology of RCDwith dam makes progresses gradually and the experience about dam accumulatesincreasingly, meanwhile, makes breakthrough in the concrete mix proportion, antiseepage structure, construction craft, etc. Now, this technology makes greatdevelopments, but there are also some questions that should be studied in depth, ofwhich the temperature control of RCD for big areas is an important research subject.This paper studies the temperature field and stress field of the dam combiningwith engineering example of roller compacted concrete gravity dam of Glantan inYunnan Province, the main conclusions are as follows:1) For the scheme of continuous placing and lift by lift, the highest temperature inthe dam is almost same in construction and operating period;for the scheme of lift bylift, the heat radiation time of time interval is longer than that of continuous placingscheme, and the highest temperature in the dam is 2℃ lower than that of the otherscheme. There are two stable high temperature regions for the overfall dam inconstruction. The highest temperature of cooling scheme is 6℃ lower than that of nocooling scheme, so water infusion cooling is feasible and necessary2) From the result of stress field, we know that the maximum of thermal stressappears in the high constraint field which locates in the bottom of high temperaturedistrict of each monolith and the grads of temperature is relatively big. So themaximum temperature of the first high temperature zone directly affects the maximumthermal stress of the dam. It's an advice that the placing temperature should becontrolled strictly in the scope of twenty meters high of the dam, and the constructionshould be done in the low temperature seasons.3) The part which is constructed in the season of high temperature will appearstable thermal zone, so it should take other steps cooling the concreting area in the timeof construction.Now, it's in the preparation stage of the roller compacted concrete gravity dam ofGelantan. Through the emulation analyses, this paper has some instruction for theengineering construction.
