Roller Compacted Concrete dam is a new type of dam having developed in recent 20 years. Cracks occur on many built dams.Cracks decrease the integrity, anti-seepage, durability and safety of the concrete dams.In the regions of harsh climate, the air temperature changes greatly between winter and summer. RCC dams are usually placed without bulk and longitudinal joints and left free in winter. Thus, RCC dams have unique thermal stress and the rules of time-space distribution that can increase the difficulties of stress temperature control and analyzing seepage.By summarizing the former achievements, this dissertation emphasizes mainly the following aspects surround the thermal stress and seepage effects of RCC dams in the regions of harsh climate:(1)The author is tied in the living example of Baishi RCC gravity dam studying the space-time distribution rules of the temperature and thermal creep stress of RCC gravity dam in the regions of harsh climate, analyzing the reasons of formative and influential factors of the cracks of the dam, considering the changes of the air temperature, water-storing process. The author considers the concrete weight, static water pressure, thermal stress, the changes of different autogenously volume between RCC and normal concrete about the calculation of the stress field. By the forms of charts and figures, the dissertation gave the results of the calculation that describes the varying regulations of the temperature field and the effects' extent of many kinds of physical factors on the temperature field .(2)Aiming at the seepage problems of the Baishi RCC gravity dam, the author has researched the theories and the calculation ways of steady seepage in detail in order to solve the problems.(3)The nuclear analysis is based on the general software-ANSYS as FEM, which has its own developing tool-APDL, the main function of the program is to analysis the temperature field, the seepage field by the method of 3D finite element.Inaddition,based on the temperature and seepage character of RCC dam,the passage used adaptive network in FEM to solve the problem of building modal on dam successful.The studying results are not only used in the construction of Baishi, but also used to any other dam that has problems of the temperature and seepage.
