Asphalt concrete is one of the most widely used pavement material. Because of the high growth of the economy of in recent years in our country, the road construction also obtained a tremendous development. And most of them are mainly made by asphalt concrete. However, the large scale of construction makes the resources of our country become very serious and deficient. In the other hand, more and more wastes are produced. Most of these wastes, especially the waste glasses and the waste rubber, are difficult to be decompounded and need badly to be deposed and recycled. Therefore, it's essential to investigate how to mix the waste glass cullet substitute natural aggregate into asphalt mixture. However, the properties changes due to the addition of the glass need to be studied systematically. The glasphalt is defined as asphalt concrete containing glass cullet as part of the aggregate. Although glasphalt has been widely tried in many regions worldwide, this study is the first of its kind in Chinese mainland. Because of the surface of the glass cullet and its component characteristics, the glasphalt concrete need to be studied contrast with traditional asphalt concrete. In this dissertation, systematical test were carried on to study the glasphalt concrete's Marshall Stability, physical properties, anti- stripping properties and so on. Furthermore, the temperature change of glasphalt at different construction stage is studied. And by coring the glasphalt pavement, we tested the properties of compacted glasphalt demo road. In the end, we carry on the permeability and skid resistance tests on the built up glasphalt concrete pavement. The test results are show as follow:When the percentage of glass is 10% by weight of the rock aggregate or the glass is crushed to sand size, and the asphalt aggregate ratio is 4.8%, the Marshall stability, of glasphalt mixtures is 25% lower than traditional asphalt mixture. And the anti-stripping capability of glasphalt mixture needed to be reinforced by adding anti-stripping agent. And the liquid anti-stripping agent and hydrated lime are recommended for use. When the percentage of glass is 10% by weight, and the asphalt content is 5%, the properties of glasphalt pavement are essentially indistinguishable from ordinary asphalt. The test result showed that the well designed glasphalt concrete can replace the traditional asphalt concrete completely or partly. And the glasphalt concrete will becomethe developmental direction on pavement in the future. Nevertheless, from the point of view of the society and environment, the use of innovative recycling technology can reduce landfill reliance and protect our environment. Furthermore, it needs to be research in the domain of ageing resistance, anti-fatigue, long-term anti-stripping capacity and other properties.
