The thesis is based on a software simulation of marine engine control system, which is funded by engine room simulator project.The object of the simulation is the main engine control system of "new dalian" container ship, which belongs to China Shipping Corporation. Marine engine control system is the key equipment of modern ship. It can complete operationsuch as starting, stopping and running main engine according to the order automatically.The study aim is to analyze the conditions of maneuvering marine engine and logical relation between them. Simulation software can be developed after the analysis.Based on the character of engine control system of MAN B&W 12K90MC-C and the analysis of the engine control system's basic functions, the author attains the logical conditions of marine engine operation. Further, the author analyzes how to realize the logical loop of the engine control system. After that, The Object Oriented method was used to design the simulation software. Language C++ was adopted to develop the software in Visual C++ 6.0 development environment. Building up human-machine interface in two ways.The result shows one of them is suitable to the simulation software. According to the using versatility, the frequency, visiting speed of database as well as complex degree of the simulation object, Microsoft Corporation's Access database has been selected for the backstage database. The DAO technology provided by Microsoft also has been chosen. Special tool software has been developed to make animation for living simulating effect, so many control operational courses of the marine engine displays dynamically in the software. Knowledge such as computer graphics, construction of data, graphical display, ActiveX has been utilized in compiling simulation software.In the last chapter, the Fault Tree Analysis method is chosen to analyses the reliability of the remote control system. After that, suggestions about repairs cycle and the number of spare part are given.The software's logical control system is the same as the real machine.It realized function of the remote control system completely, has friendly human-machine interface, makes the complex principle of main engine control system clearly expressed and easy to understand. The cause of system fault is presented visually by the FTA method. The conclusions drawed by the analysis are significant in practice.
