The main engine remote control system is one of important part of the engine room automation. The main engine remote control system is a sort of remote control equipment. With it the diesel is controlled by servomechanism in cab or engineer control room far away from the diesel. To meet actual using requirement, a double functional water-surface ship requires realizing a long distance wireless remote control in the distance more than 100km. Therefore traditional main engine remote control system can't meet the new requirement. To meet this special requirement, a new type of main engine remote control system is designed. This new system can communicate with remote control platform on the ship and have control by diesel, control in cab and remote control functions. Pivotal technologies of new main engine remote control system which has wireless remote control and unmanned function have been fully studied.Based on fully analysis for traditional structure and control model of traditional main engine remote control system, according to the special technical requirements of the double functional water-surface ship, a new main engine control model for the double functional water-surface ship is confirmed. PLC is selected as its main controller and digital electronic governor is selected as sub-system of diesel engines which can realize the control for speed and direction of the main engine.Based on the research for functions and structures of digital Electronic governor, the hardware using 80C196KC as its core is designed. Its digital in/out circuit is connected with CompoBus/D Network Devices of the PLC. It can send/receive instructions to main controller. Also the control procedure and programs are designed according to the requirements of the double functional water-surface ship.The communication system between the main controller and remote control platform is designed. Communication protocol macro is used here. The main controller receives the instructions which main control station issued to remote control platform and send the status of diesel and gear box to remote control platform. In this way, it can fully realize unmanned remote control sailing.The main control box, LOP and sailing control panel are designed. A sample equipment has been made and tested together with Diesel Engines and had an analog communication test with super computer. The test result improved that the main engine remote control system can meet the requirement of design.
