Regarded as one of indicates of a famous historical and cultural city, large numbers of relics and remnants in neoteric Changsha have opened out the inside information of Changsha and become an indispensable segment of Changsha City's culture. This thesis tried to analyze its developments on politic, economy and culture so as to probe into its shaping and developing process and the reasons leading to these results.According to idea of many domestic and overseas experts researching on architecture history, the epoch-breaking measure in this paper laid particular stress on social configuration development of neoteric China history. This paper involvedapproximate110 years' span-from Opium War in 1840 to the foundation of PRCin 1949.In the couse of studing,regard several great important incidents that happens in neoteric Changsha as clue come and study gradual progress of city,its content will be comprehensive with the objectivity.From the viewpoint of architecture history and city planning, the paper adopted a method of combining historical material and minds, raised these materials to theoretical height, and applied many specialties, including history, sociology and psychics. Many aspects of neoteric Changsha, such as city variance, city composition, street space, architecture style and vernacular cultural characteristics, were reviewed and reasoned all-around, where the transferring of commercial centers of several periods in neoteric Changsha was treated as an important clue. In virtue of a syntheses made of many substance constituents, the research on neoteric Changsha City must be placed in the economical environment and social context of neoteric China which changed violently all through.Writing this paper had two initials. One was researching and summarizing the history, the author believed that the criticism on the city remnants would be helpful to the city plan of today. The other purpose was to seek new ideas and methods on how to construct modern city and how to preserve and make use of historical culture blocks in cites.
