In order to avoid or reduce the loss which brought about by certain damages and failures during the bridge's service period owing to various causes, it is necessary to take effective monitoring method for the bridges. Therefore many scholars pay more attention to the health monitoring of bridges gradually.This text introduces the basic contents of bridge health monitoring firstly, making to the some basic concept comment. Particularly it introduces the development of bridge health monitoring in recent years. And aim at the development situation of bridge health monitoring in our country it put forward a few own viewpoint. Opposite in cable-stayed bridge and suspension bridge, the health monitoring of the arched bridge is still in the delay stage in our country. Therefore the text emphasizes to studyMaocaojie Bridge in Yiyang ------the biggest span length no pushing force middlethrust steel pipe filled with concrete arched bridge at the present time in our country, and brings forward the health monitoring program of the bridge. Among them, the text successfully applies genetic algorithms in optimization of the sensor in the main components of arched bridge.Next this text introduces the research circumstance of optimal placement of sensor. The optimal placement of sensor is hot topic in bridge heath monitoring at present time, and it has caused the extensive concern of many scholars. In this part the text introduces some algorithms and methods about optimal placement of sensor.Then this text makes use of genetic algorithms to looks for the optimal measuring point in deck and arch rib of Maocaojie Bridge. After using the software of Ansys to establish the simple model of Maocaojie Bridge, the text uses two kinds of adaptation function in these two different components. The computing process makes use of the Fortran language to calculate the result. In the end it gets the optimal program. This method can be applied in the same kind type bridges.This text puts forward two sets of health monitoring program according to the construction circumstance of Maocaojie Bridge. At first, follow Qingma Bridge it only uses GPS(Globe Position System) and sensors to put forward a simple health monitoring program. Second, it makes use of the calculation results of the optimal program to bring forward a program to the whole bridge. Comparison that two programs, we can see that the cost of the program which adopt optimization gets to lower effectively, and this kind of program also can attain the purpose that monitor the health condition completely at the same time.According to the textual research results, obviously genetic algorithms can be applied in optimal placement of sensors in the main components of arched bridge.
