With the highway volumes and axle loads' fast increasing, the inadequate rutting resistance and poor durability to the asphalt pavement and etc, become the important problems in recent years. Because the Large Stone asphalt Mixes (LSM), has the good properties of eliminating the reflect crack and resistance rut, it can effectively solve these problems. Based on researches on LSM home and abroad, and combined with the project " the LSM base application study" of the Community Department of Henan province, the paper studies the pavement performance of LSM.Firstly, the paper plainly analyses composition and structure of LSM, based on the asphalt mixture composition theory. Secondly, the paper studies the large-scale Marshall design method and the SHRP Gyration Compact void design method to design LSM individually, what is more, analyses their properties. Thirdly, the paper studies LSM high temperature stability by wheel track test, tests show the rutting resistance of LSM is far great than that of the normal HMA, besides, the aggregate gradation of LSM and skeleton-compact structure is vital to the rutting resistance. Fourthly, the paper studies LSM water stability by the water submerged large Scale Marshall and the freeze -thraw test, tests show the water damage resistance of LSM is well. Fifthly, the paper studies mechanical property of LSM by tests, further, making comparative studies between LSM and normal asphalt mixes or semi-stiff material differently. Research shows that the elastic modulus and resistance press of LSM are almost equal to that of semi-stiff materials, but the tensile splitting strength of LSM is almost 2 times larger than that of semi-rigid materials after 90 days. Finally, according to the experiments on LSM in and out, test road is built; construction technology of LSM is studied. To conclude, the results above show LSM has excellent pavement performance.
