Study On Modern Notion And Expression Of Industrial Design

It is deemed in the dissertation that Industrial Design shoulders heavy responsibilities to the construction of harmonic society. To gain further development, the designer must take root among profundity of theories, clarifying basic facts and holding to the essence. In Industrial Design, notion is the core to direct the development, and expression is the embodiment of the notion and tools to communicate and starting point to put to practice. That forms what the dissertation concerns. The basis of Industrial Design is reviewed about the concepts, domain, characters and mission. With an attitude of learning from history and facing to the future, the dissertation traced back to the evolution of world notion of industrial design, covering sects of the Arts & Crafts Movement, Art Nouveau, Modernism and Post-Modernism. The main body discusses some new or prevailing notion including Green Design, Humanistic Design, Bionic Design and Product Semantics. The viewpoint that modern design should reflect the concern of people's multi-level demands, the concern of the environment and the concern of the sociality of design is held in the dissertation. The goal of Green Design coincides with the common interests of mankind, and future design trend will not deviate from it. Guided by above tenet, the world Industrial Design will take on a trend of diversification with coexistence of different notions, among which, the Humanistic Design setting focus on people, the Bionic Design learning from Nature and full of fun, and Product Semantics emerging with era of high tech. Furthermore, modern approaches of design expression including handwork and computerization are studied and characteristics of which are analyzed together with plenty of delicate works. The sketch in handwork is good at catching ideas, and rich in the milk of human kindness, but freehand is defeated by computers in three-dimensional world. Emerging as the times require, the approach of computerization has its unexampled advantage over others. Before summarization, vistas of Industrial Design are shown and analyzed, with the discussion of the trend of future notion, the variation of design mode and approach, the prominent character of future products, and the normalization of the design trade.
