Airports attract some bird species by providing them with resources such as food andnesting sites. Those birds can be hazardous to landing and departing aircraft.Collisionsbetween wildlife and aircraft worldwide are increasing in number and severity.Differentairports may have different problems depending upon species and habitat types, so we studiedthe bird populations in and around an airport of air force for one year with the help of AirForce of Jinan Force Base,64 species belonging to 29 families and 13 orders were found. There are 17 species(26.6%) of summer migrant, 23 speies(35.9%) of resident birds, 24species(37.5%) of winter migrant . Charts of some familiar birds'allday activities and thequantitative variety in one year were also made. The charts show that the birds's activitieshave two fastigium in a day in summer, so do the birds number in one year. The nest site selection of black-billed magpie around the airport was also studied. Theresult show:The main factors of the nest site selection is the nest high and the chest-diameterof the nest tree.Human being activities is another important fact-or which can impact the nestsite selection.Insect is a food resource of bird which made the airport attractive to birds. So we alsostudied the biomass of the insect in airport grassland. 48 species belonging to 9 orders werefound. Species belong to Homoptera and Orthopter are large in quantities, but the biomassof Orthopter is main in the grassland.Following collisions between birds and aircraft, bird remains can be collected from theaircraft or runway. The downy barbules of feathers have microscopic structure that enable theidentification of the bird even when only minute remains are found. So we studied themicrostructure of some familiar birds in the airport, we hope our work can be helpful for thebirdstrike prevention work.In the end,we give some useful advices from different sides to eliminate or reduce thebird hazards.
