Development Of High Voltage Pulse Power Applied To Analyze The Quality Of Coal By Pulse Neutron

Coal is composed of combustible and incombustible two parts. The combustible composition implies the volatile and fixed carbon, which is the source of generating heat. The incombustible part contains water and dust, etc. Volatile content is one of the main judgments to classify the coal. In the power plants, to provide the measured results of the Volatile content in time can help technicians to control the boiler with stable burning and make it in safety. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an on-line detecting system to measure the heat quantity, Volatile and dusty of the coal.It features rapid and accurate advantages to measure the composition of substance by nuclear reaction. The pulse neutron is emitting from pulse neutron generator, by means of the pulse synchronism method, the rays emitting in different time can be obtained, and then the content of the coal can be detected out.The paper focuses on the high voltage pulse power supply applied in the neutron pulse coal quality analyzer. The requirement of the high voltage pulse power supply is introduced systematically, the pulse period is 400μs, the pulse width is 100μs, and the pulse amplitude of the output voltage is 3000V. The input power supply voltage is 220VAC. The circuit schematic diagram of the high voltage pulse power supply is designed by author. The main circuit is a forward converter topology and it can boost the voltage over 3000V by a transformer. The control unit is based on the UC3525. The principle of the power supply is analyzed in detail and the waveforms of main segments are presented.The parameter design of the circuit components is discussed which is vital for the performance of the power supply. On the basis of parameter designed, a prototype of high voltage pulse power supply is developed and some researches and tests have been done. The paper's background is based on the joint project of Jilin Power Fuel Company and the Institute of Radiation Technology of Northeast Normal University. The instrument developed was checked and accepted by Jilin Province Power Company Ltd. in October 2003. And it was highly evaluated that it is initiated in China and also advanced in the world. Moreover, it got the first class awards of Jilin Province Power Company Ltd. of 2003.
