Mount Lushan is not only a China National Scenic Area, but also the World Cultural Landscape Heritage. Plenty of relic, specially modern architecture, and natural environment with particular geologic traits make up an unique cultural landscape. The period from 1890s to 1930s in Lushan reflects the western culture's impact on the inland of China.Through surveying the modern architecture, gathering and analyzing the correlative literature, the purpose of the study is to know about the historical fact in architecture from 1895 to 1935 in Lushan, the significance of these architectural activities in the development of Lushan subsequently, and the historical and cultural value of the existent modern architecture.Lushan becomes a perfect summer resort because of its well geographical conditions. In 1860s, the westerners firstly arrived in the district around Lushan, such as Kiujiang, Gutang etc, and architectural activities occurred in Lianhuadong, which is at the foot of the mountain. From Little, Edward Selby, the westerners had started to build in the summer resort. The introduction of western culture resulted in the appearance of Kuling, Lushan. The first period- the westerners acted as the protagonists- is the course that the western advanced theory of architecture and plan, the way of autonomous management and the thinking of commonweal had been carried out in Lushan. The second period beginning from 1927- Chinese acted the leading actor- is the process that the natives had understood the advancement of the occidental's activities and had practiced afterward. This period also reflects the level of Chinese architecture then. During that time, Zhengjie, which is a multifunctional street, had formed and gradually became the center of Kuling, even of Lushan. In a sense, the paper has synthetically utilized the existing results of the research on Modern Architecture in Lushan, and has analyzed the literature of modern history, with architectural activity serving as a clew.
