Fast and accurate fault location of 10kV railway Automatic Blocking/Power Continuous Lines can enhance reliability of power supply and play an important role to the safety and economic running of railway power system.The origin of travelling wave and its propagation characteristics of modal components in time-domain and frequency domain are analyzed. The characteristics of configuration of railway Automatic Blocking/Power Continuous Lines and principle of various methods of travelling wave fault location are studied. Using transient surges extracted by transform voltage on the lines, a new method of double-ended principle of fault location is proposed. It can detect different kinds of faults correctly. Simulation of travelling wave of lOkV railroad Power Continuous Lines had done using ATP-EMTP. And time synchronization circuit based on GPS is designed. The system has the principle of both double-ended and single-ended fault location.An experiment caused by grounding fault initiated artificially is carried out. Travelling wave fault locator captures voltage signal and arriving time of travelling wave. And the distance of fault is given. Correction of the proposed method is proved. According to the experiment result, the reasons which produce the errors in practice application are analyzed, measures of reducing error are taken. And therefore a precise double-ended fault location is realized.
