Railway automatic blocking and continuous transmission lines (RABCTL) supply power for the railway automatic blocking signal and the loads along the lines, etc. In order to insure transportation safety, high reliability of the power supply system and quick elimination of fault is required. A slight fault could affect normal railway transportation;even cause serious life and property loss. So in order to avoid accidents, and to make the distribution network run safely, reliably and economically, fault must be located and be eliminated as quickly as possible. However, the existing methods and products which are high in error can't meet the needs of actual operation. On base of the analysis and compare of several typical fault location methods' adaptability, and considering the condition mentioned above and the character of both RABCTL and faults, an advanced S-injection method is put forwarded in this paper that is combining it with wireless-node communication network to locate its fault. The model of RABCTL based on MATLAB/SIMULINK is built, and calculating and setting laws of each module are analyzed detailedly, and the signal source capacitance and frequency range are set by simulation in this paper. On condition of those, hard work has been put into the research of changing laws of which the injected signal effected by system, and the adaptability of "S-injection method" used in different model and condition at the first time. It brings out a conclusion that signal current distribution is effected by system capacitance, inductance and resistance. This conclusion suggests that "S-injection method" would be used in all lines when resistance is low as in aerial wire when resistance is high, and its adaptability could enhance by using high signal source power and injecting signal whenpower is cut. Result of simulation shows "S-injection method" is adaptable in RABCTL fault location.A fault location method of single phase-to-ground based on S-injection is represented, and constitutes a new fault location system with another one which concerns about phase-to-phase short fault. The system' constituents and fundamental are introduced. Based on the theory and simulations, some key techniques, such as signal source, phase-to-phase short fault recognition, node power supply, and system communication network, are solved. This could be a theory basis for further research.Work done in this paper will contribute the development of RABCL fault location, both in theory and practice.
