Study Of The Communication Architecture Of SAS Based On IEC61850

IEC61850 is an international standard, proposed by IEC TC57, for the seamless communication architecture in SAS. ZEC61850 specifications represent the developing direction of the SAS communication architecture, bring the extensive concern of the domestic and international power industry. The main focuses of this article are as follows.An overview over the communication architecture of SAS in our country is given. The background of "automation island" and new requirements are discussed.This article analyses the background, basic ideas, and the content of IEC61850 standard series, including UCA standard, object-oriented modeling, system and project management, etc. Through comparing IEC61850 with traditional SCADA protocols, the feature and advantages of IEC61850 have been summarized.The solutions to upgrade the substation automation systems of our country using IEC61850 are demonstrated. The practice of reconstructing bay unit based on EP-IA2000 products is introduced. And the problems along with the implementation of IEC61850 are analysed.The improvements about the reliability and operating performance of SAS based on IEC61850 have been given in this article. Further more, it has been pointed out that the progress of applying IEC61850 to a large scale needs a long time, and there still have many technical problems to be solved.
