With the development of social economy and technology, smart grid technology has been developed rapidly. State Grid made a detailed plan in the smart grid construction. Smart substation is one of the six main parts of the smart grid, and it is the key to control and reliable operation of the power grid. Smart substation technology comes from digital substation technology. Construction and operation experience of the smart substation technology from the digital substation technology. It is more standard than the digital substation; it is more suitable for the construction of smart grid and the demand of "big run". It is the improvement and perfection of digital substation technology. Smart substation is responsible for the function of voltage transformation, receiving and sending out loads. It can control the power flow and adjust the power grid voltage. In the process of building a strong smart grid, the construction of Smart Substation plays a very important role.The development of substation automation system is divided into four stages. One is the traditional automation substation stage, the use of mechanical relay protection; two is the integrated automation substation stage, the use of Microcomputer based relay protection; three is the digital substation stage, digital communication technology is widely used in substations; four is the smart substation, IEC61850 standard throughout the entire substation construction process.Smart substation design ideas are:firstly, the device is intelligent, it is to use more devices with the intelligent interface, in order to connect intelligent components better; secondly, the secondary equipment can be connected into a network to achieve total information transmission through network. The construction of the smart substation is complete reference to IEC61850. The secondary equipment is divided into 3 parts, namely the process level, bay level and station level. Secondary equipment is composed by two networks, process layer and interlayer between connected by optical fiber, interlayer and station control layer via an Ethernet connection. The whole automation system of smart substation is the so-called "Two networks, Three-tier".110kV Xizou substation is the first intelligent substation of rural power grid in Jining area. In this paper,110kV Xizou substation is taken as an example to analyze and study the automation system architecture of the smart substation. "Two networks, Three-tier" is the network structure of substation information network. The conventional substation secondary equipment is divided into two parts and spacer layer control station. Xizou substation is in accordance with the construction of smart substation, also added a process layer, the composition of the so-called "three layer". Network is the most important system of smart substation. Reliable network and fast information transmission determines the availability of the system. Smart substations have uniform standards, good compatibility, easy expansion and renovation.In this article, we analyze and explain the 110kV substation system in detail, and explain how to realize the automatic switching function in smart substation. It is proved that the smart substation is easy to expand and transform. Then summarizes the interest Xizou substation in the construction of some of the highlights, to now there are still some problems to be listed, and provides the ideas and methods to solve.
