Ecological Thought In Architecture Design

Generally, the research on ecology issue in architecture design includes two factors: One is focused on construction practice; the other is about to explore and form theories on ecology, architecture and sociology. The former is microcosmic and on pragmatic technique level; the latter is macroscopically and on metaphysical academic level. Based on the opinion, this thesis introduces ecological conceptions in architecture design by dividing it into three parts, which are "ecological conceptions in ancient period", "development of ecological theory in modern architecture design" and "evolvement of ecological theory in contemporary architecture design".This thesis points out that there exists a middle-level on which architects learn how to deal with practical design work with academic guidance. It also means how to translate nonfigurative theory to pragmatic design. This thesis calls the middle-level "Ecological Thought in Architecture Design". The author tries to learn about the flow of thought and expression on architecture ecology, so as to find out the prevalent rules and methods in architecture design.This thesis points out that " Thought in Architecture Design" is some main means by which architects can accelerate design process and solve the main architecture problems. One precondition to create design thought is that there exists interaction between beings and the external world, and another is that the main body has abilities of nonfigurative recapitulation and dummy imagination. Thus the thesis brings it forward that the research must include main body, object and noumenon. It ulteriorly discusses the aim of research on ecological thought, ensures the principle of research and concludes the categories of ecological thought in architecture design.According to the thesis, the standard partition of thought process should contain not only subjective thought progress but also objective thought content. So the whole thought process may consist of three phases, which are idea-construction, image-development and image-consummation. Each of the phases is discussed in three aspects, which are working contents, thought character and conception expression. Many examples are also provided to analyze the thought emphases and differences among those phases, so that the commonrules and characters of ecological thought could be found out. This thesis emphasizes that technique, experience, methods and skills (including creation thought and recreation thought) are efficient means to inspire ecological thought. Based on the characteristic and contents of ecological technology, the thesis classifies Ecology Architecture into "Low-Tech Ecology Architecture", "Appropriate- Tech Ecology Architecture" and "High-Tech Ecology Architecture", which are detailedly introduced from basic conception, technique characteristic, applied value, design policy and architecture examples. "Low-Tech Ecology Architecture" is mainly used in underdeveloped district to meet the basic residential need. "Appropriate-Tech Ecology Architecture" is used in districts, which have middling industry, economical basic, relatively mature techniques and materials. And the High-Tech one is used in such districts, which are high developed and have advanced architecture level. What kind of ecology architecture should be chosen is according to the practical requirement and supporting abilities of every single district. And architecture technique should be used combined with civilization environment.This thesis points out that the Ecological Thought in architecture design materializes environment consciousness, clime culture, symbiosis ideology etc. So the research on Ecological Thought should more emphasize academic variety and civilization in architecture design. At the end of the thesis, the author figures out that Extensive Green Architecture, Intelligentized Ecology Architecture, Biology Architecture and the Future System would be the new form of ecology architecture.
