Study On Re-utilization Of Old Buildings As Resources

Cities in China are stepping into an era of renovation, for their old buildings, Renovation in this thesis does not mean reconstruction but reutilization realized by remolding, making full advantage of architecture as resources. Building reutilization is a favorable but difficult. According to the current situation of urban development, reutilization is involved in many problems such as institutional rules, economic benefits and so on. Therefore, this thesis lead the concept of "resoursize(consider architecture as resources)", regarding architectures as existing urban resources that should be exploited reasonably. Through full and systemic analysis on architecture under renovation, its available values are brought into cooperative discussion among developers, government and architects. With relevant standards, possible ways of building reutilization are brought forward efficiently on a professional level to promote building renovation. Compared with other researches on renovation in China, this thesis emphasizes particularly on institutional rules, wishing to publicize unaware values in architecture through objective evaluation and to lead urban and building renovation in China to ecologically sustainable development through resourseful.This thesis includes six chapters in four parts: the first part ( Chapter One) presents the purpose, significance and method of this study, and current problem to be solved and the organization of this thesis. The second part (Chapter Two) establishes the theoretical basis, the type and scope of old buildings of this thesis and clarifies the harmonious relationship between building protection and utilization. Resourceful old buildings as main thread, analysis on classified resource and evaluation on reliability as main content, through investigating examples, the third part (Chapter Three, Four and Five) summarizes the program and method of renovation by the way of resourceful old buildings. It alsodiscusses the design strategy of building renovation from the view of Architecture, and presents the significance and features of appropriate technology and moderate technology in design to realize reutilization of building resources. The fourth part (Chapter Six), the conclusion, confirms that the point of urban renovation is old building reutilization, and it is not a reliable way to demolish and reconstruction. Now we should think over our working method, take full advantage of architectural resources by the strategy of resource architecture, and try to realize perfect union of economic, social and environmental benefits.
