Cities and industries are undertaking dramatic changes with the drive of economic globalization, industry workers have been transferring from primary industry and secondary industry to tertiary industry during the process, many industries are also phasing out for reasons of higher operation cost or environmental protection cost etc. thus a very large quantity of industry buildings are left to be pulled down, however, in many developed countries the reutilization of old industry buildings is relatively more mature compared to China's current situation. The essay first will define the concept of abandoned industry buildings, then probe deep into the value of them. Beyond that the author did a thorough research and analysis on reutilization cases worldwide, and found that there are many aspects we need improve, such as new style design, legislation, sustainability etc. The purpose of this essay is to find a China-way of reutilizing the abandoned industry buildings through the analysis of many theories and practices. Specifically the author took Harbin as example, systematically analyzed and evaluated the industry buildings style and city characteristics, and found some a significant principle that design into a city's characteristics is always the key point for better integrating an old industry buildings into a modern and featured city theme.
