| Along with the prompt development of HVDC in our country, how to improve security and reliability of the running of HVDC systems has become an urgent thing. Thus it's important to do more research in HVDC transmission lines' protection theory and its criterions. In this thesis, HVDC transmission system's digital simulation model has been founded based on TSQ-GBJ HVDC system by means of EMTDC. To the question of traveling wave protection being liable to false action in TSQ-GBJ HVDC transmission lines, the these analyzes its traveling wave protection criterions, then found reasons of the false actions, and proposes feasible resolve projects. This thesis studied a lot of traveling wave protection theories in the world, and select two representative protection projects of ABB corp. and SIEMENS corp. as example, analysis each project by contradistinctive simulation experiments, and raised an improved traveling wave protection project with good performance. To improve traditional traveling wave protection's problem of be liable to be interfere, this thesis bring forwards a traveling wave protection project with new theory, it is 'traveling wave protection based on wavelet transform'.In this thesis, the protection criterions are all tested through the simulations under different faults conditions in HVDC power systems based on EMTDC.
