The Maopingxi Embankment Dam (MED) with an asphaltic concrete core wall, an A-class permanent building, is an important part of Three Gorges Project. This article uses the FEM (Finite Element Method) and statistics model to analyze and forecast the stress and deformation of MED, combined with the specific practice and safety monitoring of MED. The main content of this article includes: "(l)The planar non-linear and viscid-elastic static mechanical analysis is used to analyze and calculate the MD in service.(2)The planar nonlinear static mechanical analysis of the stress and deformation is used to analyze the MED in banking, which is banked to the height of 140m. (3)The statistics model is employed to press and analyze the date, which were collected through the security field monitoring, to the stress and deformation of the MED, and then these results were compared with FEM results, of the MED before it was banked to 140m. (4) The stress and deformation prediction the MED has been made both while the dam has been built height of 185m and after the reservoir is full of water. The significant properties of this article are:The parameters which involved the design and the field test were used to analyze the stress and deformation of the MED; the stress and deformation analysis was conducted to the MED under constructing; thestatistics model is used to deal with these data collected through the field monitoring; several different methods were employed to predict the stress and deformation of the MD.The analyzed and predicted results are valuable to engineering in practice.
