Settlement formation is the result of joint action of history, culture, customs, ethics and so on. Protect both the continuation of the traditional settlement needs historical context, it is a necessary condition to maintain our cultural diversity, the diversity of architectural forms. In recent years, traditional villages of protection and renewal become the focus of attention, research methods of vernacular architecture studies provide foreign-based, theory, and Chinese traditional villages and quickly disappear "before the village side" of the phenomenon, the protection of traditional settlement became proper meaning.In this paper, Fujian Fuan downstairs village as the research object, using field surveys, visits, mapping and other research methods, the data were analyzed with a view through the settlement pattern and architectural forms, research the history and culture, a comprehensive settlement of factors found to affect the formation of inquiry covered under the architectural forms of traditional Chinese geomancy ideological and ethical and cultural roots. And architectural forms, texture village made a careful analysis, in order to protect the integrity of the village fabric, cultural diversity, the uniqueness of the building to find ways.Through the study of the overall settlement and architectural form downstairs village, its essence, to its dregs, hoping to better protect the vitality of Chinese traditional culture, maintain architectural context of the continuation of the work related to the accumulation and protection of China’s current village a detailed information. Meanwhile, for the protection of ancient villages, traditional architecture to better adapt to the modern way of life to live, to explore the traditional architectural forms, using modern construction techniques, and new rural construction, explore an effective method.
