Porosity: Exploration And Experiment Of A New Architectural Form

In contemporary architecture, the "porosity" as a new building form, gradually attracted people’sattention. Based on this phenomenon, the thesis deals with porosity as the subject of study, with literaturecollection, comprehensive analysis, case studies, graphical analysis, project experiments summarized asresearch methods, exploring theory and design experiments–the two aspects of contemporary porousarchitecture. In the theoretical exploration part, the paper analyzes the cultural background of theemergence of porous building from philosophy, aesthetics, scientific view and digital technology. Withcities, architecture, interior and installations explaining the porous morphology design field, and finally toshow the form generation strategy, policy and construction diagrams of porous building design strategies,the four aspects presented in summary. For the design experiment, the paper bases on the Library Atrium ofSchool of Design, Nanjing University of the Arts as the subject, experimenting in its design theme, designpositioning, generation operation, graphical analysis, construction process and several other expressions ofresults. The theoretical exploration and design experiments aims at supplement and improvement totheoretical studies of the domestic porous architectural form together with some valuable references for thedesign practice.
