Buildings existing requires a certain form as all objects in nature. Buildings form is not only the object of visual appreciation but also perception in people's daily life. Since entering the consumer society, the complicated and diverse building form increasingly show a kind of pursuit of personalized visual effects, coupled with the development of modern computer aided design method, making the creation of building form to the extreme.In this thesis, we studied the building form from the theoretical perspective of consumption. Through the analysis of a large number of domestic and international examples, using the comparative analysis and case analysis, we studied the characteristics of building form that shown in consumer society. Include:combing the development and evolution of the concept of form since the modern architecture, analyzing the impact factors of building form, analyzing the change under the influence of the consumer culture by comparing the different contexts of traditional society and the consumer society, elaborating the relationship between the changes of building form and society; from the aspects of conspicuous consumption, technological progress, fashion and advertising, elaborating the changes of public psychology, values and behavior patterns reflected on the buildings form, pointing out the buildings form appearance has the characteristics of conspicuous type, imitative type and advertising type, discussing the cross and contact of these types. This study enriched the relevant theories of architectural form research and provided the reference for the public to understand the construction activity and architectural design practices in consumer society.
