KULANGSU is located in the center of the Modern Colonial----Xiamen----oneof the five treaty ports.The great change in the modern society environment, led to amutation of The original " traditional village style"residential space form in the publicconcession of KULANGSU, formed the “modern” residential space based on thespecial historical background.KULANGSU overseas Chinese settlements area shows Minnan culture as therepresentative of Chinese traditional culture and foreign cultural diversity. Amongdifferent culture backgrounds, the construction technology and landscape exchangesand integrates in extensive and in-depth. Especially in the first half of20th century,local and southeast Asian Chinese groups absorbed foreign culture and then had greatcreativity. This “creativity” makes original space structure, environment,architectural style and other aspects of the "modernization" self update. The role ofliving space became increasing important even beyond the development of modernport trade and becomes the main guidance of the island development. KULANGSUoverseas Chinese settlements area is different from "dual structure city" in describingof the modern southeast modern port city.
