Under the fierce competition of global automobile manufacturing industry, a good manufacturing system is crucial to help the enterprise increase their competitive power. And the layout is one of the most important thing, which includes the setup for new system and improvement on the old one. Workshop layout is the key content in manufacturing system, which impact the product quality, production efficiency and economic benefit directly. In view of above mentioned facts, the feasibility study of optimal design of manufacturing system layout is very necessary and of practical significance.Based on the fact and demand of development of our horn workshop, the direction of research could be decided. This thesis is focused on the optimal design of horn workshop layout with the following route: the analysis on the forecast demand of horn product the discrepancy between the forecast demand and real production capacity the proposal on redesign of workshop layout the improvement on the current production line and design new production line based on old one to meet the requirement the final evaluation. The theory in this thesis is based on SLP (Systematic Layout Planning), Line Balance and Ergonomics. The workshop layout has been redesigned by using SLP theory with the help of facts, lessons learned, statistic data collection. At the same time, the current production has been improved by using the theory of Line Balance and Ergonomics, especially, the new production lines could be designed according to the improvement on the old one to meet the increasing demand from our customers.
