Rotating machine is developing with higher rotation speed, heavier load and slighter rotor. Active magnetic bearing is regarded as the next generation supporting component due to the significant advantages such as contactless, active control and so on. Although the traditional PID controller is simple and robust, it is difficult for fixed control parameters of the controller to satisfy all requirments of low-frequency and high-frequency dynamic characteristic of the system synchronously. On the other hand, the modern control strategies, such as optimal control, robust control, are too complicated for practical use. In the paper, the experimental setup is developed with flexible rotor supported by active magnetic bearings, and the influence of control parameters on dynamic characteristics of the system is studied by theoretical analysis. Varying Parameter Control strategy related to rotation speed is put forward, and the feasibility of the strategy and the stability of the system are also analyzed. The signal of the rotation speed is introduced into the controller by CAP module of TMS320F2812 DSP, and the program of Varying Parameter Control is developed by C and assembly language and used for actual operation of the system. The theoretical analysis and actual operation of the system show that Varying Parameter Control can meet all requirments of low-frequency and high-frequency dynamic characteristic of the system synchronously, and also can help the system pass bending critical speeds more safely.
