In recent years, the shortage of urban land use is intensified with the rapid development of urbanization. In this situation, high-rise office buildings emerged in large numbers and popularize in big cities. Although, high-rise office buildings may decrease the use of urban land, for the giant volume, they also bring troubles like, large energy consumptions, urban environment damage. Because of the giant volume and deep depth, the core of the high-rise office building plane needs a big amount of artificial illumination, which causes the energy consumption for artificial illumination is 20% to 30% of the total annual consumption. It is 10 to 15 percent more than other kinds of buildings.Therefore, this article focuses on the lighting environment of high-rise office buildings and tries to solve the problem of big amount of energy consumptions for artificial illumination with the help of day lighting. In this research, Radiance day lighting simulation software is been used to simulate several forms of building planes, for example: square, round, triangle, cross and double square, as well as 7 planes of different aspect ratio. Then changing the area of these planes, adding open spaces, organizing the location of core tubes in order to analyses the different aspects effect on day lighting of building planes. With the simulation data, it is able to work out the amount of energy consumption been saved by the use of day lighting in building planes. In the end, there will be a summary of the strategies of day lighting design, and an office buiding case as a example to show how to use these strategies.
