This dissertation mainly deals with the research and development work of a Li-Ion battery sorting system based on the Delta-S robot. The project comes from the demand of a battery industry and sponsored by the Mayor Foundation Project. The main research contents and contributions made by this thesis are summarized as follows:On the basis of a thorough investigation into the technical process of Li-Ion battery production, the idea to build a battery sorting system using the Delta-S robot is proposed. The battery sorting system is characterized by high speed, high reliability, high integration, good flexibility, low cost .etc.According to the path of the moving platform, both the relative position among the Delta-S manipulator and the two production lines and the work space of the Delta-S manipulator are determined. On this basis, the system distribution is figured out. Furthermore, the sub-assembly is designed and the virtual prototype of the whole system is built.Considering the effect of the grasp tactics by which the Delta-S picks and places the batteries on sorting efficiency, a grasp tactic is put forward, that is the motion path of the manipulator is worked out according to the classification of the batteries in the pallet.Based upon the concept of distributed control system (DCS), the control system hardware for battery sorting is built using PXI platform plus one programmable motion controller. Using modularized software structure and based on data flow, control system software is programmed by Labview graphical language.The outcome of this work not only fulfills the blank of the highly integrated Li-Ion battery sorting system in China, but also setups a successful example for the application of the Delta-S robot and provides a good reference for its even wider applications in other industries.
