A Study Of The Environmental Interpretative Demands In Fragrant Hills Park

Adopting questionnaire survey and statistical analytical method, the study made an analysis of the environmental interpretative demands of visitors in Fragrant Hills Park from the two aspects of environmental interpretation methods and environmental interpretation contents. Besides, it explored the impact of tourists' socio-economic background and travel characteristics (travel motivation, visit frequency) on environmental interpretative demands.Most tourists (86.6%) prefer to accept environmental interpretation in outdoor environment. Tourists favorite and most used environmental interpretation media both are interpretive boards (separately 41.3%,62.6%); experience-based activity is on the highest demand (77.2%),30.6% of turists are willing to participate in environmental interpretation activicites form 10 a.m.; the most interested contents are the most attractive plants("Spring Mountain Flowers" 61.7% and "Autume Red Leaves"60.7%) in Fragarant Hills Park, followed by "Park Profile" (44.2%). In spatial layout, the vast majority of visitors (90.8%) prefer distributed interpretation. In display mode, most visitors (66.0%) prefer to see the natural kind. For "Water and Soil Erosion", tourists (80.1%) would like to learn through observation rather than pictures or captions. Most visitors (66.5%) prefer illustrated and vivid plants interpretation signs.Tourists' social & economic background and travel characteristics (travel motivation, visit frequency) impact environmental interpretation demands. Tourists' social & economic background impact environmental interpretation media, activities and themes demands. Travel characteristics have an effect on environmental interpretation media, little effect on environmental interpretation themes. Travel motivations do not affect environmental interpretation themes which affected by visit frequency.The questionnaire of this study show certain interpretation effect, basically eliminated the situation which tourists totally have on idea of environmental interpretation. After the survey, respondents have a greater understanding of environmental interpretation. Through tourists' awareness of environmental interpretation's impact, the analysis reaches a conclusion:environmental interpretation to some extent promotes environmental knowledge, improves visitors'environmental awareness, and reduces environmental vandalism, which serves the purpose of changing tourists'attitudes and behaviors.
