The global energy tension, as well as climatic change, has become a major issue to which the international society pays universal attention. Therefore, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by saving energy has already become a mutual responsibility in the international society. As the window of China open to the outside world and an important part in modern logistics supply chain, port is increasingly becoming an integrated logistics platform, composed of transportation, distribution, storage, processing, packing, and value-added service. Energy consumption of port in the whole transport industry has a certain proportion. As a result, making great efforts to energy saving and consumption reduction in the port industry is one of the focal points of energy saving in transportation industry. Harbor tugs account for a large proportion in fuel consumption of port equipment, which is the biggest factor of energy consumption of port. Therefore, it is imperative to save energy on harbor tugs and reduce energy consumption in port. Based on previous research results and combined with the author's years experience on harbor tugs, the paper has a comprehensive analysis and research on energy-saving technologies and provide several methods of energy saving that are suitable for harbor tugs, by analyzing the operating characteristics on harbor tugs.
