At home and abroad, there are many identification methods of accident-prone section, it is less under certain condition such as expressway in the mountainous area. In the meanwhile it lacks stronger applicability. So this paper focuses on the mountainous expressway to study identification method of accident-prone section.Because of mountainous terrain conditions, road design standards are lower. Because mountain climate conditions are complex and changeable, the accidents of expressway that occurred in mountainous area are more severity compared with that occurred in others. Firstly this paper makes a analysis on poor road alignment and the changeable weather conditions. On the impact of poor road alignment, this paper not only explains its impact mechanism qualitatively, but also concludes data by summarizing related information of incidents quantitatively. In analysis of the impact of climatic conditions, this paper analyzes the influences of vehicle and driver under different climates.Then, by making a comparison among the common identification methods of accident-prone section, this paper analyzes their applicability to expressway in the mountainous area. And it presents a new identification method: accumulated accident curve method that based on fixed step length road segmentation. This method has the advantage that not only takes into account the characteristics of serious and applies accumulated accident curve method as a basis. And it presents the fixed step on the road segment to improve influence of average road segment of accumulated accident curve method. So the method has theoretical and practical feasibility. Under the lack of detailed traffic data of mountainous expressway situations, the method is more simple, more applicability in ensuring accurate identification of the premise.Finally, the method is verified the applicability by the use of three years accident statistics of Chengdu-Chongqing expressway.
