As a major passenger conveyance, the bus often cause massive death and injured, which bring about enormous losses to the national economy and people's lives. Coach traffic accidents mostly include rollover, front-impact,side-impact and rear-end collision. In particular, the traffic accident caused by rollover is usually more serious than the others. So, the study on the bus rollover crashworthiness will be of great significance for improving the structural safety of bus,reducing the incidence of rollover accidents and the economic losses caused by traffiv accidents.The coach body frame plays an important role in rollover safety.The previous researches indicated that the main reasons for casualties in rollover are the invasion of residual space and the serious impact between coach structures and passengers.Computer simulation of rollover test instead of the complete vehicle test have the advantages of the little cost short period and low risk,which can be used as an effective measure of in-depth study of the structural safety.In this paper, based on the study of our country's traffic safety in recent years, according to the ECE/R66 and, using FEA procedure LS-DYNA, we study three (6127 coach,6123 coach and 6756 minibus) coach deformation characteristics and crash safety in rollover impact through finite element analysis method.Firstly the rollover simulation models of a 6127-type and a 6123-type high-bed coach based on the complete vehicle and body section were established,and the deformation difference was analysed.Then we put the test dummies and the occupant restraint device into the coach's rollover impact safety evaluation, and evaluations are made on the motion trace of car and passenges,roof deformatioiK human injury and efficiency of restraint system. Quantitative evaluations target and the FEA model standardization on the coach's rollover impact are put forward by the rollover simulation based on the complete vehicle and body section; A lot of simulations, real vehicle tests and rollover accident detections show that large scale plastic deformation concentrates in the curved transition on the roof, so enhancing the energy absorption property of the curved transition on the roof is an effective measure for improving the rollover Crashworthiness. Finally, we built the complete vehicle skeleton finite element model of a 6756-type minibus, by the simulation and structural optimization,and ultimately to reach the bus rollover safety regulations.Computer simulation of rollover test instead of the complete real vehicle test could be used as an effective measure of in-depth study of the coach collision.This paper discusses the safety of bus rollover simulation evalution methods and analysis of body framework on the rollover of the security.The result will be put to use on the development of new GB/T 17578 "Provisions of Strength for the Superstructure of Bus", and it will provide reference for further study on the coach rollover simulation.
