Study On Landscape Retaining Wall In Garden

As a common structure of city landscaping, retaining wall is as one of the important ways to deal with the terrain elevation. The retaining wall in landscape architecture can not only close space, guide the view and enrich the level of space environment, but also has a great landscape construction potential in the plane or facade. However, in the landscape construction, designers pay insufficient attention to the design of retaining walls, often simply dealt with in "engineering" design concept, they often think about its functionality and stability rather than the potential landscape, which invokes tedious and depression visually and mentally, so that the whole landscape effect and function are affected. In order to improve the environment of garden effectively, with the enhancement of people's aesthetic consciousness and the ecological awareness, on the premise of function assurance, the artistic means should be induced to have the landscape of retaining wall performed fully and to give the landscape and art to retaining wall. It becomes a need to retaining wall construction and a necessity of the construction of ecological garden city, which plays a significant part in the cause of our urban landscape.By the related literature investigation, field survey and analysis of the details of the elements, many successful examples about landscape retaining wall had been studied, so that the design points in different forms and environments could be summarized. From the scale and function of space with innovation, it discussed the design strategies of landscape retaining wall, forming a complete application theory to guide the future construction of landscape retaining wall.Initially, it had introduced the definitions of the retaining wall and the landscape retaining wall, and then had them classified depending on different basis. It also summarized the characteristics of landscape retaining wall and its functions in shaping and beautifying environment. Second through the investigation and study on landscape of the present situation and trend of retaining wall, find the existing problems and the causes of problems. Moreover, on the basis of elaborating the landscape traits of retaining wall in the artistic forms of monocase or group, the application design points of each performance had been concluded. Finally, from the aspect of the landscape retaining wall's scale and function in the garden, it had analyzed the space environment impacting on the design and application of landscape retaining wall, concluded a strategy of designing in different space environment.The study showed that it should synthetically analyze the relevant elements in the application of landscape retaining wall, though there were not enough relevant theories in actual designing. So, hope the achievements of relevant theories could provide effective assistance to the construction of retaining wall in the future.
