Tank driving and training simulation system is an integrated virtual system for tank drivers to achieve the driving experiences in the particular training grounds or unfamiliar topographies. The simulation system can improve the deficiencies of the real tank training, such as the shortage of new tank, large cost in tank maintenance, the limitation of training time and the complex security issues. And it can give both the basic driving training and training practices on unfamiliar topographies, which is great meaningful to improve training efficiency, decrease training time and reduce real tank wear.Our paper is divided into five chapters. Chapter one introduced the development of the tank driving and training simulation system abroad and domestic and elaborated the importance for our design. Chapter two presented the main parts in our training simulation system and details about its hardware. Chapter three is about establishment of motion simulating model for our e tank driving and training simulation system, dynamics and kinematical analysis were adopted to deduce motion equations. Chapter four was design process of visual simulation system,3D setting model and 3D tank model were created to meet the requirements of real-time simulation, the procedures of visual simulation realization were also detailed given in this chapter. Chapter five showed the test results of our simulation system.The visual simulation module is key point of the whole simulation design. Based on the virtual reality technology, using motion platform with three degrees of freedom and PC as the hardware support, a visual simulation module for tank driving and training simulation was set up by the setting modeling software Multigen Creator, graphical software OpenSceneGraph and Visual C—6.0. Test running showed that the system in this paper had a fluent graphic screen, steady performance and good operation. Therefore the system designed in this paper can be mass produced.
