Needs Of The Elderly And Facilities Of Community Service In Beijing

In 1999,China became a aging country, but Beijing became an aging society early in 1990. In the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan ", the development of the Aging emphasizes that:"To speed up the establishment of the social welfare services which is based on the home care, relied on the community support, and supplemented by the institution"; in the "Twelfth Five-Year" Plan which is did recently Civil Affairs emphasizes that we should keep on strengthening the establishment of old-age service system referred in "Eleventh Five-Year "plan, and make our efforts in the following aspects:we should strengthen the family endowment services as first; and second, much more community support service facilities should be considered to built, such as community day care, the community site service, and the institutions. Therefore, the research of community services for the elderly and the facilities is an important and urgent issue now.In this paper, by the way of questionnaire survey we get to know the living and activity situation of the older persons, analysis the different needs of the community services for the aged in different ages,different physical conditions,and different family structure based on the survey; and at last we provide a practical basis for the calculation of demand of the elderly's needs on health care, entertainment, catering services, housekeeping services, day care and boarding services, and so on.At the same time, we through the field investigation of the existing community daycare center in Beijing to know well about the basic profiles such as the size of the facility, functional composition, and so on; by the way of observing the life of older persons in facility we get to know the behavior character of the aged, the usage of the space and the problems; and make our efforts to get the comments and suggestions of the elderly and the nurses in facilities by means of interviewing with them. Finally, on the basis of the all of the investigation of the facilities, we make some recommendations for the design of the community daycare center such as the size of the facility, function composition, streamline organizations, and design features of the spaces, and so on.
