At present, the Chinese freight vehicle is constantly developing towards the direction of accommodating heavier load.20,000-ton heavy haul trains have been running on the Datong-Qinhuangdao railway line. The bolster of the bogie sustains a variety of vertical, transverse and longitudinal alternating load in the running time, and requires high fatigue reliability. Currently, the bolster fatigue test is based on the TB1959 "Static load and fatigue test of bolster and side frame for railway freight car", which is a trade standard of the Chinese railway in accordance with the standard of Association of American Railroads. But there is much difference on the situation of railways and vehicles between the two countries; therefore it is needed to get the load spectrum of the bolster fit to our railways by actual measurement. This paper is based on the actual measured bolster load, and do some study on the following aspects:1. Make dynamometer bolster with sensors on center plate and side bearings, do the load test on the Datong-Qinhuangdao railway line to obtain the bolster vertical load and analysis the load-time history of special conditions.2. Load spectrums of center plate and side bearings have been made using rain-flow counting method.3. Do the finite element analysis of K6 bogie bolster and identified the fatigue risk position.4. Do fatigue test on fatigue testing machine, and protract the P-S-N curve.5. Study the damage of fatigue risk position by nominal stress approach and Miner linear damage cumulative rule. And estimate the fatigue life of the bolster.6. Compare the different of the results of two kinds of damage calculation approach, which are load spectrum and total stress spectrum.
