Hydraulic balancing of pipeline network is important in building systems or industry system. Most balancing methods, focusing on the balancing itself, ignore the energy saving. It's not in step with the energy conservation and pollution reduction. This thesis presents a new energy-saving balancing method that automatic flow control valves and frequency converter pump are associated via the optimum calculation based on a mathematical model. An automatic flow control valve with ring-shape valve plate is designed. The formula for weighted flow area is improved and guides the designing work of valve plate. Both CFD and experiment provide the data of flow characteristics. It's verified that the characteristics of this control valve is linear.A mathematical model of pipeline network, based on fluid mechanics and fluid network theory, is built. Linear programming is applied to optimize the model. Combining the optimum result and the performance curve of pump, optimum pump frequency is obtained and can be used to adjust the pipeline network. In order to verify the balancing method, experiment setup with precise devices is installed and the method shows good energy-saving performance. The result of this thesis is of great practical value.
