The Development Process Of Chinese Modeling In The New Period (1979-2008)

Modeling, the exotic art form, has been gradually growing mature in China in the thirty years, since Pierre Cardin brought fashion models into our country for the first time in 1979. After collating and analyzing the modeling events in the thirty years, this paper divided the development of Chinese modeling industry into three stages: initial stage, foundation stage, rapid growth stage. Influenced by the social development and ideology, modeling industry was hindered more or less at each stage, but it had been thriving and is booming today. The paper reviewed the development process of modeling industry, looked into the laws of development, hoping to have positive impacts on its future.The paper probed into the growth of Chinese modeling industry in difficulty: from fashion model teams to professional modeling agency, from domestic competitions to international arena, from imitation to professional education, etc., the whole process of gradual improvement. Today modeling has become an essential part of our social economy and cultural life.After carding and reflecting the development process of modeling in the new period, the conclusion part of this paper summed up the characteristics of Chinese modeling, educed its development direction and revealed the important meaning of modeling development from the points of Sociology and Communication research.
