Fishbone-branch well is a new method to maximize the reservoir exposed area combined with the reservoir geologic characteristics. It could be use to develop block, thin layer, multi-layer, fractured reservoir with more reservoir exposed area which could increase the drainable area. This method has been used successfully on aboard. Other oil field has done some fishbone-branch well field test and achieve obvious economic benefit.Daqing oil field is a mature field. With the field development, there is an increasing problem of short reserve, low recovery ratio and high drilling cost. In recent year, there are more than one hundred of wells have been drilled in low abundance thin reservoir which has shown great effect. fishbone-branch well is a effective method to lower the drilling cost and increase the economic benefit.According to the low abundance thin reservoir situation of Daqing oil field and the current fishbone-branch well drilling method, a new fishbone-branch well drilling method adapt to the low abundance thin reservoir of Daqing outskirt area is developed in the paper to solve four main problems of prediction of drill string drag and torque, suspension sidetrack, well path control of main wellbore and branch wellbore and the setup of main wellbore completion string. The optimization of branch numbers, branch angle and branch length and simulation drilling plan of fishbone-branch well are also researched in the paper.
