Today,more and more emphasis has been posed on the environment quality while accelerating the economy development. The environmental parameters like temperature and humidity are of vital importance to product quality and security of production, especially in the areas of electronic manufacturing, pharmacy, food manufacturing and storage. Thus, an effective and accurate environmental monitoring system is of great significance.However, the common environmental monitoring system in the domestic market mostly adopts the SCM processor as its core processor, which as a result brought several shortcomings such as couldn't collect environmental parameter within wide area, couldn't monitoring from far away, inadequate display functions and also too complex wiring, to just name a few. According to the reasons mentioned above,this paper will mainly introduce a new type of environmental monitoring system based on embedded system technology, to fulfill present manufacturing corporation's need of high quality environment monitoring.This enviormental monitoring is a typical embedded system, with ARM processor as its CPU(S3C2410), Linux as it OS, MiniGUI as its embedded user interface, is total different from its peers .As only a part of the huge project, this paper includes general design of this system, the general software solution and porting of the environment including both lower and upper development. Through certain comparison, we did type selecting for CPU, operating system, embedded GUI and so on. More emphases of this paper are laid on the porting and customization of Boot Loader, Linux kernel, MiniGUI environment, the upper software development, and the MiniGUI application. Also, some design of other parts including hardware and software are also mentioned in this paper.
