Sheet metal parts are widely used in industrial production. According to the practical situation of the factory, some key techniques in sheet metal cutting CAD/CAM system are studied in this thesis, such as building of parametric graphic database, some related cutting technologies, cutting path optimization, graphics automatic programming and post processing. Based on them, a sheet metal cutting CAD/CAM system-SmartNest is developed. Several related aspects are studied in this thesis:The requirement of function of the system is described with the consideration of integration. The modules are assigned and their interfaces are designed with the thinking of modularization. The whole framework of the system is built up; the object-oriented data structure is built up, which penetrates all the CAD/CAM system.Using the object-oriented method of software exploitation, a parametric figure storage design system is developed in the thesis. It can achieve dimension-driven all entities in standard sheet metal parts.Several related practical cutting technologies are studied and realized, such as conjunct border cutting, bridge-cutting and continuous cutting, the utilization rate and the cutting quality are greatly improved. Aim at the problem of cutting path optimization of part with many holes, the hierarchical approach based on ant colony optimization is presented in this thesis, by which, the spatial traveling schedule length of the cutter is reduced and the production efficiency is enhanced.NC code automatic generation based object-oriented is realized, the process of the interim code production is presented, based on which, the post processing module is built, the NC code conversion of different numerical control system is realized.
