With the high-speed development of computer technology, artificial intelligence and CAD technology, intelligent CAD system of cutting tools is becoming more and more important. During the producing process, how to use these technologies to choose the appropriate cutting tool, optimized cutting parameters, optimized geometric parameters, scientific data and drawing of cutting tool design, is becoming an important topic which is need to be soluted urgently.The intelligent CAD system of cutting tools is developed for NingJiang Group. This system mainly supplies the cutting tool entity model, 2D drawing, optimized cutting parameters and geometric parameters during spindle's processing, which is to meet the requirment of the size and tolerance of holes, surface roughness, depth sizes and cutting tool life.The system data is established by metal cutting database with the relational data theory, and establishes BCNF relational model, and then establishes SQL server 2000 bottom database. And the data is mainly collected from expert data, the literature data and the experimental data. At first, knowledge base is established with expert's knowledge and experience, then the positive reasoning which based on rules is used to get the cutting tool's geometric parameters, cutting tool's materials, cutting fluid and so on using combination of the metal cutting databases and the knowledge bases. So the metal cutting database is becoming much more integration, practical and intelligent.After establishing the metal cutting database, the data is used to optimize the metal cutting parameters. The Optimization of cutting parameters uses the optimization function which takes the feed rate and cutting speed as independent variable, and the minimum cost and the maximum productivity as the target. Under the given cutting depth, the restraint scope of the feed rate and cutting speed is setted according to the different of machining condition, and is meeted the calibration of machine power at the same time. The Matlab's engine technology realizes the interactive of datas with visual the C++, and the cutting parameters optimization is realized by using 2D optimized function in the Matlab toolbox. Compared to the one-dimensional optimized function, the cutting parameters which uses the two-dimensional optimized function improves performances of cutting tools and machine tool.Under the spindle which means multi-cutting-tools process simultaneously, computer optimizes the cutting parameters, and enables the producing process efficiency to the best. In order to realize the cutting tools that are distinguished, the mnemonic code law is adopted to encode cutting tools.The system is developed using CBR technology, expert system, dynamic link library, ADO technology, which integrates the merits of Visual C++ 6.0, SQL server 2000, Matlab 7.1 and Solid Works 2006, and the system integrates with the optimization of cutting tool's geometric parameters, the optimization of the cutting parameters, and the automatic generation of 3D solid image and 2D drawings of components and assembly drawings.The cutting tool's geometric parameters and the cutting parameters provided by the CAD system are much more reasonable. The 2D drawings and 3D images meet the factory's requirement. Regarding the cutting tool design, the graph production and the correct selection of material and cutting parameters have practical application significance. The efficiency of design and production may reduce the production cost, short the cycle of machining and improve the productivity. It can also demonstrate the biggest superiority of the cutting tools, and make CAD technology of our country's cutter industry to develop and apply fastly.
