The lock is commonly used in daily life, but it is different from the modern family electric appliances. Developing from the primitive coarse handmade wooden lock and the reed lock to modern mechanical spring lock and electronic intelligence lock, lock has a history of thousands of years. Not only the appearance and model have changed, but also the principle of functional control and the way to research and develop have changed fundamentally.In the ancient times, our intelligent ancestors invented the reed lock which has been used till today. With nearly 30 years' development after reform and open policy , China has become the world's biggest country in producing and consuming locking device and the manufacturing ability has greatly been improved. But because locks have been underestimated as "the hardware" all the time, there has been serious deficiency of scholar research in the product of locks. The break of connection in produces and studies and research leads the product's design and research and develop not to meet people's need. With the science and technology highly developed, Chinese competitive power proves to be insufficient in the field of locking device at present, therefore the high-end market mainly occupied by overseas hardware companies.The gates' "open and close" and the locks' "lock and unlock" safeguard people's property security and personal safety. Through the study of the source and design of locking device, the author thought that the locking device is a matter of system, as will be the same as the family electric appliances design. Under the influence of modern science and technology, the idea of concrete locking device can start with product images; product man-machine system, material, people's emotional demand for fashion. Facing the effect of high new technology permeating and the currency of fashion, the author puts forward some own suggestions and advice on Chinese lock design under the consideration of the trend of lock development in the future, hoping to provide a reference or the theory method instruction about the research and development of the product of lock.
