Ink Knitting

Garment, as an important carrier of national art, usually carries the unique cultural tendency, esthetic attitude and value of a nation. It is the duty of designers to inherent and develop the national garment culture, while keeping in pace with the fashion led by the western society. The same problem of how to represent and develop traditional culture also exists in the design of knitwear. Based on the local culture and with the experiences on knitwear design, the author proposed a new theory in modern knitwear design; which is to apply the various principles in ink painting, such as bone method,division and planning, to the designing of knitwear. In further detail, it means to fuse the spirit of traditional ink painting with modern knitwear by special techniques and material processing in knitting, so that to build a new style of knitwear. Through original designing and case-by-case analysis on products of typical brands, the author explores the combination of modern fashions and the art of ink painting in both theoretical and practical aspects.
