Study On A EPC Code-Based Traceability System For Pork Quality And Safety

With the integration of global economy and people's increasing awareness of health, safety of food, especially of animal origin is of sense in the world wide. That fact food safety accicidents happen frequently abroad and home increases the consumers'concern about whether the consumed food is safe, even in adoutful sense, these shakes the consumer's confidence in food. To meet the requirement from the consumers for food safety information and the requirement from the food inoported country for food treaceability, it is essential and compulsory to set up a food traceability system. This study is to set up a traceability system of pork for the whole chain by investigation of current pork safety status, analysis of key factors along the pork supply chain, which contribute to pork safety and the use of advanced coding techniques such as EPC code and RFID, to provide a strong basis for the strategy of meeting the rerquirement of consumers and of food sevellence. The amin results are as follows:1. Necessary tracing indices, including the essential for food traceability and the safety related for hazard tracking along the pork supply chian have been sreened, by thorough investigation in pork production, extracting experience in HACCP application for pork production line from advanced countries and integrated with the regulatory management in China;2. The whole structure and WEB structure of pork safety traceability system has been constructed, which is composed of information collection module, central database, data treatment module and information inquiring module. The approaches for high effective running and maintenance are also studied;3. After better understanding of EPC coding technique and RFID technique, a EPC-based code for pork or pig labeling along the pork supply chain has been designed; Then the traceability system along the whole chain has been established, with electronic ear-ring and RFID as the transporting medium of information, and the band code as the medium of information for the end products, by which information could be collected automatically and pork information could tracking from pork to single pig;4. The pork safety traceability system has been successfully applied in Tianjin Ningheyuan Nursery, Tianjin Baodi Agricultural Technology Limited Company and Tianjin Walmart supermarket which have produced very good demonstrating effects.
