| With the increasingly serious situation of energy supply and consumption and the continuous improvement of petroleum science & technology, the competition between international oil majors is becoming more and more fierce. Although the whole oil & gas field development technology level of CNPC is high, the level of high-end technology still exists considerable gap compared with the world's leading level. Therefore, it is an important project that can support the technology innovation of CNPC and lead the future direction of technology development to research the present and the future trend of foreign oil & gas field development technology. Seven international oil majors, ExxonMobil, BP, Chevron, Shell, Total, StatoilHydro, Eni, are researched using information research approaches. Key upstream technologies of these companies were selected through researching their total strategy, developing strategy of their business and their technology strategy. The present and the future trend of these key technologies were investigated by comparing the technology level of reservoir simulation, enhanced oil recovery, digital oil field and so on. At last, the advantages and disadvantages of CNPC'oil & gas field development technology were researched by comparing CNPC with those oil majors and some suggestions which can meet the real need of CNPC'development were put out.
