We employed a one-step foaming method to prepare plastic foams containing differentamounts of bamboo charcoal, using polyurethane plastic foam as a base, and bamboocharcoal as the adsorption packing material. This composite material has both adsorptioncapabilities and the superb qualities of polyurethane plastic foam. This is a novel type ofcomposite material that has important research value and prospects for broad application.This thesis investigates mainly the preparation conditions for the composite materialand the influence of the bamboo charcoal on foaming behavior and micro phaseseparation. The research indicates that throughout the complete reaction process, bamboocharcoal not only acts as an adsorptive, but also as a solid powder emulsifier, a nucleatingagent(bubble nucleating agent and crystal nucleating agent), a solid powder stabilizeragent, and so on. We used tensile testing and thermo gravimetric (TG) analysis to explorethe influence of the introduction of bamboo charcoal on the material's mechanical andthermal properties.Using the static adsorption method, we investigated the adsorption of formaldehyde,ammonia, and benzene onto samples containing various amounts of bamboo charcoal.The differences in the adsorption capacity for different materials has been preliminarilyexplained using the scanning electron microscope to observe the structural morphologyof the plastic-foam/bamboo charcoal powder composite.Additionally, we conducted preliminary investigations of the humidity-control andanti-mildew properties of the composites. The composites exhibited a higher degree ofhumidity control and anti-mildew action than did common foams.Therefore, the polyurethane plastic-foam/bamboo-charcoal powder composite not onlymeets mechanical requirements, but also exhibits new functionality. This composite hasdefinite value in the areas of research and practical use.
