Computer simulation technology for Computer Numerically Control (CNC) machining plays a very important role in CAD/CAM and has been the focus for many years. Classical methods have been primarily based on two-dimensional (2D) cases via a carton-animation-mode. With the wider applications of CNC technologys, three-dimensional simulation for machining process has become the trends. This thesis mainly concerns this kind of simulation for lathe-machinings by solid modeling technologies based on Boolean operation. The thesis first presents a new idea for simulation. The new simulation runs by a"virtuality+reality"mode, which uses real machines and virtual machines simultaneously to perform a machining process. On construction of the tool swept volume, the thesis puts forward a compounded method that can construct a tool swept volume faster and more accurately. A framework of the simulation system is worked out in the paper and the experimental data are shown in the end. The main work that is concerned with this thesis is as follows:1. A new simulation notion that names"virtuality+reality"simulation mode is presented. This mode combines the virtual machine movement and the real NC manipulation together to avoid the efficiencies of classical VR technology, which simply depends on the computer. It enables users to learn both fundamental principle of NC lathe and practical skills of manipulating NC systems.2. A whole framework of NC lathe simulation system is designed and a software framework of NC lathe machining process simulator is researched particularly. Developed with VC++ from the understratum directly, the system is used to simulate machining environment, error check and translation of NC program, machining process of 3D-solid.3. In the thesis a NC program translator that is designed not only can read the NC program, check its error and translate its data for simulation but also has the general-utility and compatibility.4. A new method for construct tool swept volume that names Compounded Constructive Method (CCM) is improved. The method is used to simulate the NC lathe code such as G01, G02/03 and G32 etc. Compared with the normal method, the new method has the property such as more quickly simulation velocity and better dynamic.
